Patumahoe Village Inc.

It has been established that the best way to have a say is to participate in the Long Term Community Council Plan for Patumahoe in 2012.

If we do not provide the council with a proposal, they will design and implement their own view of Patumahoe Village using the information they have available.

The adopted plan will not be replaced for a further ten years.

This process is what developers go through to get long-term zoning and development changes to land that they own.

In this process the residents of Patumahoe Village are "the developers" and our views will be considered when creating a concept plan to be submitted to Auckland Council in 2012.

Structure of Patumahoe Village 2050 group

As funding will have to be obtained to address this process comprehensively and effectively,  it has been decided to form an Incorporated Society so that we can apply for and access grants and funding.

The first AGM will be held on Tuesday 22nd September 2010 and any member of the community is welcome to join as a member and participate in this process.

The draft Constitution for Patumahoe Village 2050 can be found below for review.

There are three main considerations to make when formulating a brief to council staff:
  • is this proposal a result of comprehensive and informative community consultation and participation?
  • is this proposal sustainable in the long term?
  • does it take into account the guidelines of the local and regional plans?
This means that in designing this proposal we have to look further ahead than current sports, community and recreational use - we have to look decades forward in time - hence the name for our group: Patumahoe Village Inc

Any council, whether it is Franklin District Council or Auckland needs to have identified  development needs before they can allocate resources, be it funding or land.  To do that, we have to ensure that we have a collective vision, that is suitable for current and future residents, and sustainable in the long term.

The most effective persuasion will come from a united community vision.

Council cannot (and obviously, will not) do it all
Yes, it will mean that further planning and fundraising will be required in the future to provide facilities, but if we have a cohesive and well-developed vision for Patumahoe Village, identifying the land options at this stage will go a long way to ensuring that infrastructure needs have been included in District Planning documents, and future development funding may come our way.

It will also mean that zoning and landuse has been determined in a systematic and considered way in regards to the residents and businesses of the area.

This is a great benefit for both landowners and residents, and will try to address the sometimes chaotic effect of ad-hoc development.
