FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I like Patumahoe the way it is, why would I want it to change?
So do we. The reality is, Patumahoe, like many already established villages, has been identified as a settlement of high growth potential. This has been confirmed and re-inforced as recently as August 2010 when an ARC document was published highlighting this fact.

Patumahoe is going to change, and council planners with no local knowledge or interest will be using standard procedures to decide on zoning and community infrastructure unless well-considered submissions are made and supported by community.

And by identifying Patumahoe as a community of expected high growth, determining land-use requirements without allocation, provides a situation where ad-hoc development is most likely to occur.

What will it cost me?
Nothing but time.  From a few moments, to as long as it takes, if you find that you want to get more involved.

What is the process?
The process is threefold:
  1. Community (Focus Groups)- consultation, consolidation and feedback from as many community members and groups as possible in order to design a concept brief for the village  (six to eight months);
  2. Council Planners (Working committee) - engaging planners and working with council staff to create a concept plan from the brief that meets the long term strategies and goals of both regional and local policies (eighteen months to two years);
  3. Auckland Council - (July 2012) Submitting this plan to Auckland Council as part of the 2012 LTCCP process for Patumahoe, so that our vision of Patumahoe is accepted into the District Plan. This plan is effective for ten years from that date.
Why should I participate?
You have nothing to lose - and possibly - so much to gain.  Submissions by individuals will never have as much weight as those that are compiled and submitted by community groups, especially when supported by consultation and design documentation.

If you have ideas about the direction of Patumahoe, leave the hard work up to the group, the professionals and the council, but let your voice be heard in the community component.

Submit your comments online on other pages of this blog, this is as painless as we can make it.

What considerations need to be addressed?
There are many different aspects to a community plan. Due to space restraints on this blog, some have been lumped together, but have a look at the headings and comment on those you wish to.

If you have issues that have not been addressed post them at the bottom of this page.  Focus groups will be given your comments to include in their research and consolidation process.

How will I know my comments have been heard and considered?
We will try and update this blog as comments are received and processed, but as we are all volunteers this might take time.  We will try our best.

In addition, before the final concept brief is given to the planners to create a Structure Plan we will be holding an information day for the community where all information and design considerations will be on show, and feedback can be given.

The working committee will then continue to liaise with council to ensure reference is continually made to the concept brief.  Feedback will also be given to the community at regular intervals, or when required.
