Patumahoe Village Heritage

Many of you noted that you liked the way the Patumahoe Village looked, and wanted the older style facades to stay (and continue to be built in keeping with this style).  Others just mentioned that they liked the small town feel of the village, and would not like to see it disappear.

It has been proposed that we could pursue becoming a village where weekend activities promote the village and the facilities.  Farmers market, weekend cafes and businesses etc.  If there is an extended commuter train to Waiuku in the future (not as far off as you might suppose) a historical train station providing a range of weekend businesses that promote our region.

The focus group that is researching this topic will have to consider the following:
  • How do we allow for growth and development and provide mechanisms to maintain this community aesthetic value?
  • What can we do now and in the future to enhance this?

  1. I am a teenager from Patumahoe Village and quite like the Village as it is. Whenever I go away whether on holiday or not, I am proud to come back to Patumahoe and feel like I am at home. The farms and countryside of Patumahoe gives our Village a down to earth feel. We have hardly if no crime, little grafitti and most certainly have a tight nit community who looks after eachother. We are known as a Village and I believe we should remain like that. I dont want Patumahoe to be like Pukekohe, grossly over populated with graffitti and lots of crime.Patumahoe doesnt need to change, we are just going to become over populated and I actually feel safe taking my dog for a run knowing that I have my community looking after me. We are a Village and thats how we should stay. People travel to see something different, to escape from a town, come to see the country and to experience something that you don't experience these days, a small piece of country paradise. I strongly believe that the council wanting to "develop" Patumahoe are just money hungry just like the people creating sub divisions. Its not fair on the Patumahoe community and it just makes me so furious because of people wanting to take away the history of such a beautiful village. We are community driven and we have made our community thrive all by ourselves through all of these years and by still keeping our village a village. We don't need the councils help when we are fine by our own. We don't need a commercial area when Pukekohe is just down the road. Its so unfair on our community when we have spent years working to make our community stronger and we still do to this day and we love doing it. Now the council is going to take it away from all of us just to make some more money.
